Lately I've been collaborating with the super talented Celso Teixeira on a 3D sculpt for Oscar Zahn. By collaborating I mean he's been doing all the hard work and I've been scribbling random notes on top that may or may not be helpful. I thought it would be fun to keep you guys updated on the process. I've never really had my work translated to 3D so I'm excited to see where it goes. Who knows, maybe there will be an Oscar Zahn model one day!
Wow, I thought this day would never come! After what seems like an eternity, The Strange Tales of Oscar Zahn has finally relaunched on Line Webtoon and so far it seems to be getting a tremendous response!
I've been working in isolation for the last few months, working on the new story and moving the comic over and I've really missed getting that feedback from the readers. More than anything, knowing that people are enjoying the comic is what motivates me to keep working on Oscar Zahn.
It's kind of funny when I think about it, Oscar Zahn was sort of a joke idea I came up with one day at lunch with some of my colleagues. The idea was mostly born of out a mixture of a dissatisfaction with the work I've done professionally and a foolish naivete that I was going to do a comic that's "H.P Lovecraft mixed with Miyazaki!".
Fast forward a year and The Strange Tales of Oscar Zahn is actually a thing! Without the support of my friends, family, studio mates, and MOST importantly the readers, Oscar Zahn would have probably just sat unfinished on my hard drive. Just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to everybody.
So anyways, now that the comic is hosted by LINE Webtoon, I've been thinking of what I can do with www.oscarzahn.com. For now I will probably use it as hub for me to post Oscar Zahn related news, sketches or maybe even just personal stuff that I think would be fun to share.
Also, if you haven't done so yet, please take the time check out my patreon. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hey everybody! So first the good news, The Strange Tales of Oscar Zahn has been selected by Line Webtoon to be a featured comic. What does this mean? Good question! It means I'll be making some money through the comic which will allow me to cut down on the amount of freelance I need to take on which in turn means more Oscar Zahn comics! I'll be able to release about three times more story than I was doing previously.
In exchange for the financial support, Line Webtoon will be hosting the comic exclusively so unfortunately I'll need to take it off Tapastic. I'll also need to change my own website to redirect to webtoon's site. I've had such a great response from the readers on Tapastic and this site, I hope you guys will continue reading the comic at its new home!
Because of all the big changes coming up, the comic will be relaunching on June 10th with a big chunk of story all at once. Please come back and check it out. Can't wait to get started again!Read More
Hi all! So some of you may have noticed that May has come along and we still don't a new comic up! What gives? First of all, I want to apologize for the delay. There are some good reasons for this which I will be able to share soon but the good news is that there will be much more Oscar Zahn coming in the future and at a much quicker rate than I initially anticipated. The comic is coming along well and i can't wait to share it with everybody. Please be patient just a little longer!
If you are in the Toronto area this weekend, I'll be at TCAF with the rest of the Raid Studio so please come by and say hi!
In the meantime, here's a sneak peak at the new comic.Read More

Thanks for reading everybody!
Its been a while since my last blog post! In the last month, Toronto Comic Con has came and went, I've wrapped up the first storyline for Oscar Zahn and set up a Patreon to hopefully fund further Oscar Zahn Stories. Now that things have settled down, I have the opportunity to reflect and consider the future.
For the past six months, I've been on a bit of a working vacation, foregoing studio work and freelance gigs to try to do something purely from a creative viewpoint. It was a rough start, having not done anything purely creative for myself since school, and also having never actually completed a sustained project. The first page of Oscar Zahn literally took me a year to complete, as ridiculous as that sounds. There were alot of false starts, collaborations that went in opposing directions and just alot of self doubt which manifested itself in endless redesigns and pondering.
In retrospect, I needed to go through that process to try to find a bit of my own creative voice (a process I still struggle with) and also the confidence to like (or at least be ok with) my own work.
I look at the Oscar Zahn pages I've drawn so far and I see something that hews a little TOO closely to my influences (namely Miyazaki, Lovecraft and of course Mignola). Once in a while I see a little bit of me poking through.
Anyways, the first story arc for Oscar Zahn is coming to an end in the first week of April after which the comic will be going on hiatus until May (I will have specific date soon). I'm currently working on the next story but unfortunately the vacation is over and I need to devote time to work that will pay the bills for a little while so progress on the comic has slowed down a little.
Thank you everybody that has been reading the comic (there's alot more of you out there than I thought there would be!) and supporting me through donations, print sales, patreon pledges or even just leaving an encouraging word. It really gives me the motivation to keep doing what I'm doing!

Some readers had expressed interest in seeing some process stuff on this blog (I guess not everybody wants to read me ranting about X-Wing all the time) so I thought i would post a little bit about my general design process using a recent commision of the awesomeCaptain Macbastard by the super funnyTwistwood as an example.

Preface: if you are an experienced X-Wing player and have stumbled upon this page in search of masterful insights and tactics then I'm sorry to have wasted your time. This is just me trying to teach myself the game.
So I've been trying to build a bomber squadron centered around my favorite ship, the Tie Punisher. I don't have too many ships or upgrades to choose from, just the two core sets, the b-wing and of course the Tie Punisher. What I would like to do is try my best to design a 100 point squadron focused on deploying ordnance and I'd like to do so by making the most of what I currently have.
Based on my limited experience with the game it seems like the best way to build the Punisher would be to choose whether to outfit it for the firing of missiles or the laying of mines. Trying to kit it out for both would probably result in an overly expensive ship that wouldn't last long on the field.
